The 35kV Concentric Neutral Cable (100% insulation - 0.345") with One-Third Neutral is a medium-voltage, shielded power cable designed for use in solidly grounded electrical systems. It features a stranded conductor (typically copper), cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, semi-conductive layers, and a concentric layer of bare copper wires that act as the ground/neutral path. The neutral wires are sized to one-third the ampacity of the conductor, which reduces material cost and weight in systems where full neutral is not required.
Voltage Class: 35kV (phase-to-phase)
Insulation Level: 100% (for solidly grounded systems)
Insulation Thickness: 0.345" (8.76 mm)
Neutral Configuration: One-third ampacity bare copper wires
Temperature Rating: 90°C (normal), 130°C (emergency), 250°C (short-circuit)
This cable is used in:
Solidly grounded medium-voltage power distribution systems
Utility primary underground feeders
Substations and large industrial power systems
Installations requiring reduced neutral size and cost efficiency
Direct burial, duct bank, tray, or conduit systems
One-third neutral is suitable when:
Ground fault return paths are limited or separately provided
A dedicated equipment grounding conductor (EGC) is installed
The system is three-phase balanced with limited unbalanced or neutral current

100% insulation level is only acceptable for solidly grounded systems.
If used in ungrounded or impedance-grounded systems, a 133% insulation level is required.
A One-third neutral may not be sufficient to carry fault current in all applications. Always validate with protection coordination and grounding design.
