OPGW (Optical Ground Wire) with a stainless steel tube and stranded outer layers is a robust overhead cable used in high-voltage power lines to simultaneously provide grounding and optical communication. The cable features a sealed stainless steel central tube that houses and protects the optical fibers from mechanical stress, moisture, and corrosion. Surrounding this core are one or two stranded layers of aluminum-clad steel (ACS) wires or a combination of ACS and aluminum alloy wires, which offer high mechanical strength, fault current capacity, and corrosion resistance.
This stranded construction improves cable flexibility, vibration resistance, and tensile performance, making it suitable for long-span, harsh weather, and high-load applications.
